Jennifer Lofkrantz
Jennifer Lofkrantz is an Associate Professor of History at the American University of Nigeria. She specializes in the history of precolonial West Africa and the contemporary history of northern Nigeria. Her research is focused on Muslim West African intellectual debates on enslavement and remedies for "illegal" enslavement, especially the ransoming of captives, and on historical and contemporary jihadism. Her research has been published in the journals Slavery & Abolition, The Journal of African History, The International Journal of African Historical Studies, and African Economic History among others. She is a co-editor of the edited volume Ransoming, Captivity, and Piracy in Africa and the Mediterranean (Africa World Press, 2016) and is a co-editor of the journal African Economic History.Professeure associée en histoire à la American University of Nigeria, Jennifer Lofkrantz est spécialisée en histoire de l’Afrique de l’Ouest précoloniale ainsi qu’en histoire contemporaine du nord du Nigéria.
